About the exhibitor
Based in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, and Amsterdam, Utte explores ways to reduce industrial waste in Hasami's ware industry. Established in June 2021 by Ranko Motomura in collaboration with local Japanese ceramists, Utte's initial initiative involves developing terrazzo from pottery that can no longer be used. Ranko Motomura, founder of ate., is the co-founder, brand producer, and designer for Utte.
About the products
Ranko Motomura's experimental artworks delve into the diversity and possibilities of discarded materials from the Hasami ware industry in Nagasaki and ceramic studios in Amsterdam. Some pieces combine Hasami terrazzo with waste materials and tools produced during pottery making. Like balancing rocks, Motomura discerns where each unique material naturally interlocks and supports one another in a harmonious balance.
