About the exhibitor
Synergiez is a shared workspace in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture. Created with the concept of "desiring people to feel bamboo" it’s a place to encounter culture and art by experiencing Japanese crafts firsthand.
This exhibition is a collaboration with the bamboo craft artist Chikara Kojima, a member of the shared workspace of Synergies. Chikara Kojima is also a part of the "Oita Future Bamboo Project Japan" which aims to create new utilization and cycle systems for bamboo in Japan.
Together they will be exhibiting some possibilities for these new bamboo materials, incorporating traditional Japanese bamboo crafts and products with bamboo materials and nanotechnology in the context of modern life scenes.
About the products
Bamboo has long been used in Japan for both food and craft in everyday life. It is deeply ingrained into Japanese lifestyles, industries, and arts. However, in the process of modernization the use of plastics has risen and the devastation of bamboo has become a social problem in Japan. In recent years, nanotechnology-based methods of utilizing bamboo materials have been emerging. This technology is expanding the possibilities of bamboo’s use in modern lifestyles. We are now collaborating with bamboo artist Chikara Kojima to exhibit traditional bamboo crafts and the possibilities for these new bamboo materials.
