About the exhibitor
Mujun is a design and craft collective based in rural Japan, where the traditional craft industry still exists. The team consists of designers and young craftspeople specialising in knife making. They are currently working on the revitalisation of Satoyama to improve the self-sufficiency of craftmaking by caring for the trees and re-designing the underground environment, as well as the wind and water flow.
About the products
Since 2018, MUJUN has established MUJUN Workshop Ono, a training programme for successors of knife craftspeople (blacksmiths) and has been training four successors. In a region where tradition was at risk of dying out due to over-preservation, they have initiated efforts to cultivate innovative successors. The MUJUN Workshop Yunotsu was recently launched, focusing on improving the self-sufficiency of craft-making through Satoyama revitalisation. MUJUN will be showcasing knives and related products crafted through these activities, as well as artworks created in collaboration with artisans.
