About the exhibitor
Japanesque Medell is working to breathe new life into Japan's traditional kimono to pass on to future generations. Beautiful kimono patterns and silk textures created using traditional techniques are reimagined as products for everyday use.
About the products
Each MONO JAPAN will exhibit and sell products repurposed from kimono: clothes, accessories, fabric panels, and framed panels, as well as materials such as obi, foil paper cords (dead stock), and ancient cloth. The kimono upcycled for these products are carefully selected from a huge selection for each product.
Fabric panels
A fabric panel from kimono and obi pasted onto a wooden backboard. Beautiful, well-balanced, patterns are cut into panels to enjoy as one would a fine work of art. The lightweight pieces can be displayed as a single item or combined into panels of various sizes to enliven any wall with refined colour and style. These works can also be framed, arranged, and stacked on background panels.
Shibori-pressed Azuma bag
The technique of wrapping and tying textiles has been important in Japan since ancient times. Azuma bags are a traditional tote bag with excellent functional beauty that have been used since the Edo period. The shape of the Azuma bag can be adjusted to wrap or carry various items using the simple, ingenious knot design.
