Shop at Floriade

Floriade is a world horticultural exhibition that takes place in the Netherlands only once a decade. It is the 7th time that the exhibition is held in the Netherlands, this time at a beautiful location in Almere. Dutch horticulture brings the theme ‘Growing Green Cities’ to life in collaboration with national and international participants at the Expo. Be amazed at the Expo by all kinds of green innovations that make cities more fun, liveable and sustainable.

The Japanese government officially joins the expo this year with the pavilion and the garden to promote their traditional way of “Satoyama” living. It is the first time that Japan builds their own pavilion with a shop space in the Floriade expo. MONO JAPAN is the official partner to produce the shop this year.

THE ART OF TRADITIONAL SHIBORI TIE-DYE
From Traditional to the Avant-Garde

Sewing, tying and dyeing cloth. Shibori, the ancient art of tie-dye, was perfected in Kyoto during the Edo period.
The magic of Shibori is in its ability to create a unique personality for every piece of cloth. Some can be dynamic and driving, while others are delicate and sensitive. It's as if the cloth has been enchanted, and given a life of its own defined by the art of Shibori.

With the concept of “WEARABLE ART, Bunzaburo's items integrate the dynamic design of Shibori with a refined modern fashion sense.

Katayama Bunzaburo Shoten was founded in 1915 in Kyoto, as a kimono manufacturer specializing in tie-dyeing. Since then, the history of Bunzaburo has been one of constant innovation.

KYOTO KARASUMA ROKUHICHIDO is a new brand of Japanese stationery that expresses the motifs of Japan's four seasons and customs using the technique of Hari-e.
It is a brand that loves paper, enjoys using paper and thinks about the future of paper. The brand creates products and forms that are only possible with paper, connecting people and continuing to convey thoughts and feelings through paper.

Uemura Paper is the company behind KYOTO KARASUMA ROKUHICHIDO. They have been producing various paper products in the ancient capital of Kyoto since 1872. Uemura Paper proposes the future of paper based on their experience, technology and traditions it has cultivated over the years.

The main items are stationery made from Japan's unique paper, Washi. Washi, a paper that the Japanese people have long been familiar with and which is also a legacy of the creativity and skills of their predecessors, has been given a modern feel and essence.

These new Japanese stationery items add richness to everyday life. The texture of the paper, the colours of the paper and the shapes of the paper are woven together to create a variety of products.

About the Japanese Washi paper of KYOTO KARASUMA ROKUHICHIDO

Washi is a typical Japanese paper. Made mainly from kozo (paper mulberry), mitsumata and gampi, it is made by using clean water to produce paper which has a soft and distinctive texture.
Washi production areas are spread out across the country and have a close relationship with the people of each region, shaping a long history.

Currently, there are six types of washi used in ROKUHICHIDO's Japanese stationery.
Mino washi from Gifu Prefecture, Echizen washi from Fukui Prefecture, Kurotani washi from Kyoto Prefecture, Awa washi from Tokushima Prefecture, Iyo washi from Ehime Prefecture and Yatsuo washi from Toyama Prefecture.
Please take one in your hand and enjoy the different textures.
